White Port is where tradition meets funk. Most people have had Port… a select few have had White Port. I joined that company with the Quinta do Infantado’s Dry White Port.
White Ports are not widely accepted among wine aficionados, nor as easy to find as their more traditional ruby, tawny, and vintage designated cousins. Made from only white grapes, rather than the red varietals that dominate the other styles, white Ports are actually quite common in Portugal. Traditionally, they are served chilled or even over ice. While this may cause the wine purists out there to wince, this coolness does a great job cutting through the hot Douro summers – and it will do a fine job with our American heat waves, too.
Quinta do Infantado is known for making drier style Ports, and that certainly applies to their white Port, which has the word ”Sec” (”dry”) prominently displayed on the front label. Infantado prefers to let their grapes nearly ferment out, then add minimal amounts of the fortifying wine brandy to stop fermentation, leaving a nice, fresh, crisp, drier wine. The grapes used are not your everyday varietals: Gouveio, Rabigato and Voisinho. The wine is then aged for several years in oak and blended into a non-vintage house style, much as is done with tawny and ruby styles.
This particular white Port pours out in a gorgeous translucent amber-orange color, with legs betraying some viscosity. On the nose, there is some caramel infused with turpentine and plenty of apricot and white peaches. Some baked pineapple and stone fruit are also evident. If you have ever had golden syrup on pancakes, this smells quite a bit like that. On the palate, a sharp, bitterness hits you, almost like cocoa powder, but without being ”dark”. There are also some gooseberry flavors, but with sufficient sweetness to balance the bitter acidity. Combine all this with orange peel flavors, notes of burnt yellow cake, and a strong petrol component as well. With all this complexity, it is very difficult to describe to someone who has never had a white Port before. It is almost madeira-like, but much fresher and not oxidized.
For $15-$20, it is an excellent experience, and I give it 90 points as one of the best in its class.
цена в ашане (jumbo) Faro около 5 евро.

и с этим полезно ознакомиться, дабы потом перед полкой с 30 видами портвейна полегче было
